MAHLE were really motoring in June with the official launch of their new range extender vehicle and Northampton’s first electric vehicle (EV) car charging point.
The new car has been designed to relieve so called ‘range anxiety.’ Basically, this is where consumers are put off electric vehicles due to the preconception they are unable to travel acceptable distances between charging.
The vehicle is a plug-in EV with a compact, twin cylinder petrol engine. For the majority of the time the car can be used as an EV with the engine ‘kicking in’ on longer journeys when the battery charge level drops below 25%.
The charging point, found at MAHLE’s St. James Mill Road HQ, can be used to charge any plug-in EVs that visit the site.
You may already know that Northamptonshire is recognised the world over as a leading location for the development of EVs and related technology but it is nonetheless thrilling (or dare we say, electrifying) that new developments of this kind are taking place in Northamptonshire.
