There are over 1,000 companies that make up the HPT network in Northamptonshire
This week is Grand Prix Week – celebrating 50 years of the Grand Prix at Silverstone and the tremendous impact of Northamptonshire’s motorsport heritage and High Performance Technologies (HPT) sector on the county’s economy.
There are over 1,000 companies that make up the High Performance Technologies Network (HPT) in Northamptonshire and they play a crucial part in the economic growth of the county and in fulfilling the career and innovative aspirations of its workforce.
So, developing engineers with the necessary skills and knowledge required for future development and growth of the HPT industry in Northamptonshire is crucial.
In the most recent Guardian University Guide, the University of Northampton’s General Engineering offering was ranked in the Top 10 of Higher Education Institutes in the UK. The university is uniquely focussed on local work placements through the link with the Northants Engineering Training Partnership (NETP) which provides students with key contacts in industry and valuable practical experience throughout their studies, developing industry relevant employability skills.
Engineering student, Albert Hewson, has undertaken a number of work placements whilst studying including 13 months at engineering company, Cummins, as part of a NETP initiative.
Albert’s degree, along with his work experience, equipped him with a good grounding to enable him to apply for positions within the engineering industry. He said that a combination of Cummins dedication to training and personal development and the NETP element was hugely important for him and an outstanding aspect of the course no less.
In the most recently published figures* the University of Northampton’s Engineering HND and BSC courses saw 100% of students in work or further study six months after graduating.
